Preferred Lies

A ball lying Through the Green on a closely mown area may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark its position. Having lifted the ball, you must place it on a spot witin 6 inches/15 cms of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay.

If a player fails to mark the position of the ball before lifting it they incur a penalty of one stroke.

Embedded or Plugged Balls

A ball embedded in its own pitch mark Through the Green may be lifted, after first marking its position. You may then clean and place the ball within 6 inches/15 cms in closely mown areas or drop one club length not nearer the hole in the rough.

An embedded ball lifted from the rough should be dropped back in the rough.

Through the Green means the hole area of the course with the exception of the teeing ground, putting Green and all hazards.
