Due to the extremely wet weather conditions we had been experiencing for a while in the Algarve, this year's St. Patrick's Day Competition which was to be held on Monday 17th March unfortunately had to be postponed to a later date. We however decided to go ahead with lunch on the day at the Central Cafe in Carvoeiro as the decorations had been put up on Sunday and the food had been prepared. We had a great turnout as everyone struggled through the severe wet weather conditions to support the lunch. Birthday boy Rikki Huddleston who played a list of Irish music he had compiled for the day collected the money at the door and after a few pre meal drinks the lunch commenced with couvert and platters of ham and cheese. This was followed by Irish Stew and then a selection of desserts with wine, soft drinks and coffee. During the meal Rikki and Margot handed out a variety of Irish trinkets for everyone as a keepsake. Many thanks to Rikki and Margot for organising the day and to everyone who helped with the preparations. As there were no prizes to announce, everyone stayed on for a while and then left to either head home or carry on with other festivities!!!! A great day was had by all!!!
The competition postponed from Monday 17th March was eventually played on Wednesday 26th March. It was great to see the sun return again after a long spell of storms, wind and rain. The majority of players stayed for the prize giving on the terrace, members were congratulated and the prizes were awarded as follows:
1st prize - Steve Etherington & Tom O'Neill
2nd prize - Villematti & Tuula Nurmi
3rd prize - Margaret Jones & Geoff Nevin
Nearest the pin ladies - Liv Namtved
Nearest the pin men - Mick Girling
Nearest the line ladies - Britt-Inger Rehn
Nearest the line men - Lars Bjork
Best Fancy Dress - Geoff Nevin

Captain Geoff thanked everyone who had organised both events and to everyone who participated in the competition and the lunch.
